How to Avoid Crowds at the Mona Lisa?
The Louvre is the most visited museum in the world. Standing in front of the Mona Lisa often feels like being in a packed subway car. Here are 5 insider tips to get a better view.
1. Arrive at Opening Time
Book the 9:00 AM slot. As soon as you pass security, do not stop at the Sphinx or the Venus de Milo. Walk straight to the Denon Wing, Room 711. You will have about 15 minutes of relative calm before the tour groups arrive.
2. Use the "Secret" Entrance
Most people queue at the Pyramid. Instead, use the Carrousel du Louvre entrance (underground shopping mall). The lines are often shorter and faster.
3. Visit on Friday Evenings
On Fridays, the museum stays open until 9:45 PM. Most tourists go for dinner around 7 PM, leaving the galleries much quieter. The atmosphere is magical at night.
